Great Flexibility with Program Set-Up

Please read the following information on this page, as it will help you see our versatility and flexibility to match nearly any program agendas. Hopefully many of your questions will be addressed here.

Falcon Quest is not a pre-programmed "canned" presentation. Each venue is unique and special to us. Unlike some presentations, we actually interact and enter into discussions during the program. We also tailor each program to make this a unique experience. This even holds true for repeat venue sites, no two presentations are exactly the same. In some cases, even the birds being presented may be different.

We strive to be interactive with our audience, and provide for very interesting, informative presentations.

Program Setup Information

Each venue is special and due to this Falcon Quest personally develops the program based upon the expected outcomes desired.

Both indoor and outdoor set-up is available. We have canopy style tents that is used to protect the birds from direct hot sun for those times of the year. With this, we are almost limitless. For indoor set up we can utilize a relatively small space and really all we need is an open area of about 20' x 20'.

County Fairs: Please contact Falcon Quest if you would be interested in having birds of prey at your fair or similar type venue. Falcon Quest has contracted with Columbia and Burke County Fairs in Georgia. The feedback from the patrons who have seen our shows at these fairs has been outstanding. We are hoping to participate in the Columbia SC State Fair, and Aiken County SC Fair in the near future.

For most venues we do not let the birds fly free, for the safety of the birds and in case someone has a real fear of the birds. We also do not allow people to touch or pet the birds. The oils from our hands are not good for the feathers, and mostly the birds just don't like being touched.

Free-flight presentations: At some venue sites this may be a possibility for those sites where this is possible. To see a falcon free flying and stooping after a lure is an unforgettable and most likely a once in a lifetime experience. We also have an Augur Buzzard that can be free-flighted.

Although the birds are not allowed to fly free in all indoor and most outdoor venues sites, at times the birds are still allowed to fly to a perch while in total control with the use of a guideline. This allows the viewers to see the birds in flight and the interaction that can build between falconer and the bird of prey.

About the birds used.

All of the birds are legally obtained and privately owned from domestic sources such as avian conservation propagation programs. We follow United States Fish and Wildlife Service and South Carolina DNR best management practices guidelines for falconry birds. We also currently hold a joint Federal/State falconry permit and follow those guidelines in animal husbandry needs.
All of the birds are domestically raised and would not be able to survive naturally if released into the wild. Each bird raised in captivity helps conserve the natural wild populations.

G- rated: No live or dead animal predation is shown. The intent is not to show the graphic side of predation between the bird of prey and its quarry. No animal will be harmed in any way during the presentation. Most of the food items used for reward efforts during a presentation is pieces of chicken gizzards bought from a local grocery store.

We try to bring an assortment of birds, diurnal, nocturnal, and scavenger species. With this assortment we can cover the important differences between them for extremely interesting and educational presentations. We bring at least three bird species to your event.

If we are talking about medieval falconry practices often times we also have a ferret as part of the program. Ferreting and Falconry have been used in tandem and proves to be extremely interesting discussion for children and adults alike. Actually, Shadow our ferret has become so popular with Falcon Quest she now comes to almost all of our venues.

Working with you, working together.

To date Falcon Quest has been involved with so many different venues they are too many to go into full detail. Everything from Harry Potter themed events, to assisted living retirement communities, bird watching clubs, county fairs, church fund raising events, birthday parties, men's prayer groups, vacation bible schools, home school cooperatives, scouts, 4-H, and etc.

Topics such as: history of falconry, specific species information including local birds of prey in our area, biology, morphology, predator- prey relationships, conservation/preservation, migratory bird act and other protection laws, and to include geography from around the world and where different birds of prey live.
Glen will be happy to visit with you to develop a presentation that can address specific educational requests. We can help you meet educational curriculum requirements.

If there is specific interest in medieval falconry from the time of Kings and kingdoms Glen can do a presentation based upon 15th century Britain, as a medieval falconer. Perfect for certain history classes or those who are interested in medieval times. Having been to Scotland several times Glen gives very informative and factual information from when falconry was truly the "Sport of Kigs"..

Falcon Quest is also faith-based thus, has been invited to be part of Vacation Bible Schools, fund raising events, prayer groups, men's church groups, and etc. There are direct correlations between birds of prey, Falcon Quest, and faith centered venues. Such as, one of the falcon species presented is from Israel and Egypt areas, both places are tied to this species, and this species is tied to both the New and Old Testaments. There are also scriptures that relate to the Eagle, that Glen ties into interesting thoughts and discussions.
